Students in the Forest Resources Technology program are well prepared to begin a career in forestry; however, for those who are interested in continuing their education, there many options! Check out the list below:

UBC - BSF Forest Operations or Forest Resources Management

Our Post Diploma Bridging Year allows Technology graduates to transfer directly into third year of the Forest Management or Forest Operations degrees offered at the University of British Columbia (Vancouver campus). For more information see our Forestry Program Options.

UNBC - BSc in Forest Ecology and Management

Our graduates can transfer to the Natural Resource Management Program at University of Northern British Columbia and obtain a BSc in Forest Ecology and Management. Our graduates receive 50 credits of the 123 credit program. Completing their program will take 2.5 - 3 years, depending course scheduling.

UoA - BSc Forestry or BSc Forest Business Management

Our graduates can transfer to the School of Forest Science & Management at the University of Alberta and take a degree in either Forestry or Forest Business Management. Exact credits received will depend on grades received at VIU, but it is expected that students will receive approximately 45 credits, leaving 75 credits (equivalent to 2.5 years of study) to be completed.

Lakehead - BSc Forestry or BSc Forestry

Our graduates can transfer to the Honours Bachelor of Science in Forestry at Lakehead University in Ontario.  Our graduates take a bridging course at Lakehead in the month of August.  They then enter directly into the third year of the BSF program and con complete their degree in just two additional years.

VIU – BA Geography, Natural Resource Management

Students undertaking the Geography degree in Natural Resource Management will be challenged to think critically from a variety of perspectives, analyze problems and seek resolutions to natural resource conflicts.  Students  with the dual credential of a Forestry Diploma and a BA - Geography, Natural Resource Management will be eligible to register as an Allied Science Forester in Training (ASFIT) and become a Registered Professional Forester (RPF) with the Association of BC Forest Professionals (ABCFP). VIU – BSc - GeoScience Major

Students completing the GeoScience degree at VIU will be eligible to register as a professional geoscientist(P.Geo) with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of BC (APEGBC).  For more information check out the GeoScience Program website.

VIU - Advanced Diploma in GIS Applications

The Advanced Diploma in GIS Applications provides skills training in geographic information systems (GIS) to university and college graduates who wish to strengthen their employment opportunities in GIS applications – an area that is in high demand around the world.

VIU - Resource Management Officer Technology

The Resource Management Officer Technology courses at Vancouver Island University provide academic training and practical experience required for preparation for careers related to the protection and management of Canada's fisheries, wildlife, and parks resources.
