An introduction to the functional morphology, ecology, and behaviour of invertebrates, stressing symbiotic interactions and natural history of marine invertebrates of the Pacific northwest.
The wide diversity of the invertebrate animal kingdom is surveyed and described in both laboratory and field settings. Special attention is given to structure and function and their importance in classification of the major phyla and classes. The underlying theme is evolutionary with consideration given to the origin and the relationships among major groups. The ecology of invertebrate animals is frequently included. Groups include: Protozoa, Porifera, Cnidaria, Acoelomates, Pseudocoelomates, Annelida, Mollusca, Arthropoda, Lophophorates and Echinodermata.
