Field experience is an integral component to our Earth Science programs and one of the skillsets that really sets VIU students and graduates apart from the rest. In the field, the theoretical concepts taught in the classroom can be integrated with observations of natural phenomena. Field trips are also lots of fun!
Students who study Earth Science at VIU will have plenty of opportunities to observe geologic formations first-hand, and witness geologic processes in action. Field trips are integrated into the curriculum of almost all the courses we offer. Trips range in duration from several hours, looking at local features of interest near the campus, up to 10 day journeys to more exotic destinations, like Hawaii and San Francisco.
